Unit 5 Post

The biggest difference I noticed between the Loving Kindness exercises and the Subtle Mind exercises were that te Loving Kindness exercise was more of an active exercise.  What I mean by that is that we are actively creating an image, focusing on it, and speaking it.  With the Subtle Mind exercise we are concentrating more on calmness and breahing.  I found te Subtle Mind exercise more relaxing and I was able to go with it easily.  I think it will be interesting to try this exercise in different situations to see if I can achieve the same result.


Spiritual, mental and physical are the three parts of the whole.  In order to experience true wellness we must be well in each of these area's.  As the book shows with the colored circles al area's overlap, none stand alone.  In order to be a balanced person and expereince peace we have to care for each area equally, and find ways to grow in all ways.  the mind is a very strong and resilient thing, but it requires exercise just as the body does.  We should all seek ways to make ourselves stronger in each area.

Since beginning this class I have taken on a few new exercises to help in the three area's.  Quitting smoking for my physical health, and learning new meditation and relaxation techniques for mental health, and I am reading the bible more and praying for spiritual health.

    I have to agree with you. I felt like the loving kindness exercise was more of an active exercise. I felt it was really hard for me to keep my mind from wondering. The further the exercise progressed the easier it became. I am starting to enjoy this exercise. I still need to increase my spiritual health.

    Awwesome job on quitting smoking. That can be one of the hardest adictions to overcome. I want to try this exercise with different sitations also. One idea is to use it when those moments when my kids have pushed my buttons way to many times and I on the verge of an explosion. My witnessing my frustration and then letting it pass. Maybe just maybe my top won't blow. I might even use this as a way to get my powerpoint project done for this unit instead of tossing and turning at night trying to put it together in my mind LOL =) tammie
